She is head of the firm’s Wellington based patent teams and concentrates on all aspects of patent work particularly in the chemical and pharmaceutical areas.
Julie has served as President of the New Zealand Institute of Patent attorneys in 2004 and 2005, and has been involved in the preparation of submissions on a number of pieces of legislation, including the Patents Bill, the Lawyers and Conveyancers Bill (now enacted) and the Evidence Bill (now enacted). She has a special interest in issues relating to the patent attorney profession.
In 2006, Julie was appointed to the Australian Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys. She was re-appointed for a second term in 2009.
In 2009, Julie became chair of FICPI’s CET 8, a working committee on traditional knowledge. The committee currently monitors progress of the discussions being held by WIPO’s Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore.
